Surface Preperation

The beginning point for any work on concrete floors

Surface preparation is the main factor impacting the success of any decorative concrete project. The quality of surface prep is absolutely critical to determining whether any type of concrete repair project is a success.

Whether you are looking for concrete polish, or an epoxy installation, the concrete must be clean, flat, and smooth. Improper preparation can lead to disbonding of sealers and epoxy, and a distorted appearance of polished floors.

CSNY does not proceed with any project until we have achieved a clean and properly prepared surface so we can guarantee the intended finish.

Customers can expect more from CSNY every step of the way!

Durable

Polished concrete floors are extremely strong and resilient. They can withstand the pressure of extremely heavy foot traffic and equipment, making it an exceptional choice for numerous settings.

Easy to Maintain

Polished concrete maintenance is largely dictated by the amount of foot traffic it receives. High traffic areas require more frequent cleaning, but overall polished concrete is known for requiring extremely low maintenance and benign extortionary resilient and long-lasting.

Less Time Cleaning

Cleaning polished concrete is quite easy using water and a clean microfiber mop. If you feel the need to use a cleaner neutral-PH cleaners work best to remove scuffs and smudges.

Stained Concrete

Stained concrete allows you to enhance the appearance of concrete by bringing out the rich tones with variances to create various effects.

Rather than sitting on top of your surface like epoxy, concrete staining penetrates the surface creating an interesting visual appearance. Unlike a coating that may need to be reapplied, stains are permanent.

Concrete workers on a project

Concrete naturally has surfaces that are porous, which puts them at risk for damage and deterioration over time from things like the elements, moisture, stains, oil, grease, and other residues. Applying a concrete sealer can extend the life of new or existing structural and decorative concrete and help restore the surface to its original condition. Choosing the right type of concrete sealer is critical to creating a low maintenance and long-lasting floor. There are many different types of sealers that are used for different reasons, ranging from appearance to functional needs. CSNY offers a variety of different sealers that are matched to your ideal needs. Depending on what those needs are we may recommend:

  • Densifiers for interior dust proofing and sealing especially when polishing.
  • Acrylic sealers for interior and exterior projects to protect against water damage.
  • Epoxy sealers for indoor use to provide abrasion and water resistance.
  • Polyaspartic sealers when UV and stain resistance is important and when you need a project completed quickly.
  • Polyurethane sealers in high-traffic or decorative applications that resist chemicals.
  • Penetrating (or impregnating) sealers for projects outdoors where invisible protection is desired.

Worker applying self leveling concrete

Self-Leveling Concrete serves two main functions: underlayment and toppings.

  • Underlayment is installed over an existing subfloor to smooth out and correct any surface irregularities, including uneven surfaces prior to the installation of all types of floor coverings. Certain underlayments can even be sealed for a final finished surface.
  • Poured Toppings perform a similar function but act as the actual finished floor without the need for a floor covering. Concrete toppings can also receive pigmented color dyes, stains, saw cuts or mechanical polishing to produce a decorative concrete finished wear surface. Self-leveling concrete comes in either white or gray, and can be blended for shading, which makes for a beautiful floor. If color is desired, pigments are mixed into each batch thoroughly to obtain consistency providing for an integrally colored surface.  Poured toppings are the ultimate for polished concrete floors.
  • Microtopping serves a similar function of providing a new finished surface, but instead of being poured they are troweled down and can create some very artistic effects in addition to smooth finishes. In addition to floors, they can be applied to walls or other surfaces such as fireplaces and column
